KidsMatter

What do you mean by "wellbeing"?

"A state of wellbeing in which an individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community".

World Health Organisation (2007)

"Optimal wellbeing is characterised by positive feelings and attitude, positive relationships with others, resilience and satisfaction with self and experiences and engagements in learning".

Diocese of Broken Bay (2012) Pastoral Care Policy for Diocesan Systemic Schools

KidsMatter Primary provides a framework for mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention that is specifically oriented to primary schools, rather than presenting schools with a single defined program.

Though this framework, St John the Baptist Primary School is provided with resources to implement a comprehensive approach to addressing our students' mental health, which is tailored to our local needs.

The KidsMatter Primary framework covers four components that have shown to be highly successful in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children:

  • Positive school community
  • Social and emotional learning for students
  • Working with parents and carers
  • Helping children with mental health difficulties

Each week in our newsletter we provide some resources for parents and carers focussed on wellbeing.
