Borrowing

Students in Years K-4 are required to bring a library bag for borrowing. Students in Years K-2 borrow in their library lesson. Years 3-6 students can borrow in lessons, before school, during second break, and may also borrow over the two week holiday breaks.

Overdue Policy/Lost books

Students are required to return books before they can borrow each week. If a book is lost we ask that the replacement cost is sent to the Library. The main objective is to have students borrowing again as quickly as possible, so please do contact the Library if there is any problem.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

All students at St John's are encouraged to participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge. Parental permission is required to enter the PRC because there is important privacy information to consider.

All students entering the Premier’s Reading Challenge will receive a PRC certificate and will appear in the PRC Honour roll. The Honour roll is printed in the Sun Herald newspaper. The certificate shows the student’s name and school. Only the student’s name will appear in the Honour Roll with no other identifying factors. Participating schools appear as a separate list.

Parents can email permission, or return a completed information/permission slip. For full details including rules, booklists, privacy information and how to complete the reading record, please go to the Premier’s Reading Challenge website. To find out your child's username and password, please email the PRC Coordinator.

More Reading Challenges!

This year we are introducing a range of school-based reading challenges to promote a reading culture at school and at home. Students in Years 2-6 can take the Genre Challenge, Author Challenge, Classics Challenge or the Series Challenge. Certificates for achievement will be awarded.

Destiny Quest

The Destiny library catalogue is available from home. Year 3-6 students may search for books, place titles on their virtual “bookshelves”, and give their favourite stories a rating or write a review. Students must only use Destiny Quest with their own account logon.

Author Lunch Club

Our school library, in conjunction with local bookstore, Book Bazaar, Umina Beach, organises a visiting author or illustrator every term.   All students are welcome to attend this lunch time event with the purchase of a book. Stay tuned to the weekly newsletters for details of our visiting author this term.

Children’s Book Week

Children’s Book Week is celebrated right around Australia in August every year.  We will be celebrating Book Week as a school community so please check newsletters in Term 3 for any special events.
