Our Parish

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School is part of the Catholic Parish of Woy Woy Peninsula which was established in 1946.

SJB Church Inside
The Church was also used as a school from 1922.  Sisters of St Joseph, who had arrived at Kincumber as early as 1887, commuted daily from Gosford by train until a house was bought in Victoria Road Woy Woy in the 1930s and became a convent for three resident Sisters.   The school gradually grew on the limited space around the Church and Presbytery, until it was rebuilt on its present site at Dulkara Road Woy Woy South in 1979.

In November 2007, a modern state-of-the-art, award winning design Church was built at Victoria Road Woy Woy. Students are regularly transported to participate in liturgies and masses with the wider Parish community and for dedicated school celebrations.

Families are encourage to regularly celebrate Mass with the Parish.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM

The sacraments of the Church were shown to, then given to us by Jesus as precious symbols of grace. These symbols allow us to actually see and feel God's infinite care for all of us. Celebrating the sacraments is at the core of our parish life, and we extend an invitation to participate in our Sacramental Programme to any child or family in our local community.   All enquiries about these Sacraments should be made with the Parish Sacramental Co-Ordinator through St John the Baptist Parish.

Confirmation occurs first, in Year 2,but is open to anyone over the age of 7 years. It is where we are given the precious gift of the Holy Spirit, as well as the gifts & fruits of the Holy Spirit that allow us to grow more deeply in our faith and our love of God and others.

Reconciliation (or contrition, penance, confession) is the process we take to reunite ourselves with God when we have sinned. It is a 3 step process: we reflect on what we have done wrong, confess our sins honestly to a priest and then finally tell him how truly sorry we are and how we will make "good" with God. Children receive this Sacrament in Year 2.

First Holy Communion is where we receive Jesus, The Body of Christ, for the first time in the Holy Eucharist, increasing our bond with Him and with His Church. It preserves and renews the life of grace received at Baptism and Confirmation and makes us grow in love for all, our sense of charity & justice and helps us avoid doing wrong in the future. (CCC 1391-1397, 1416).  Children receive this Sacrament in Year 3.

Liturgical Life

Our Sacramental Programme is complemented well by a very full liturgical calendar within our parish for both our school and church communities. We are happy to say they both often overlap and invite you to come and celebrate with us.
